A Couple, A Person, Me is a calligraphic triptych that moves from two people to one person to oneself. The first character literally means “strung together” and represents a couple. It is written with two brushes held together, each carrying a different paint, reflecting a life shared from beginning to end. The second character means a person, singular. It is again written using two brushes and two paints, but now they are a person and their shadow. Which one dies first is undecided. The final character, me, is the most personal, made not with a brush but with fingerprints, the one mark that belongs to no one else.
