Witness began as a photograph by the artist's wife — Selina — a crescent moon, a single point of light, and the stillness of the sky above the horizon. Nothing in the image moves or resolves, and the work is about the act of looking itself. It was the title that transformed the image, turning the stillness back on the viewer and asking quietly who the witness has become.
